Level 3 Resuscitation - Immediate Life Support (Trained Nurses Only)

Aim: To provide Immediate Life Support to meet the Level 3 standards of the UK Core Skills Training Framework.

Duration: 1 day course following the Resuscitation Council, (UK) Guidelines for "In hospital resuscitation" and meets standard of Level 3 resuscitation in the UK Core Skills Training Framework

Ratio: 1 instructor to 6 candidates

  • Recognising cardiorespiratory arrest
  • Universal algorithm

  • BLS practice
  • The operation of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) safely and appropriately
  • Appropriate emergency response in accordance with Resuscitation Council (UK) guidelines
  • Clinical deterioration and escalating care
  • Shockable and non-shockable rhythms
  • AED and safe defibrillation
  • Use of adrenaline
  • Airway management – basic and immediate
  • Skill stations
  • Team working
  • Summoning immediate emergency assistance
  • Individual responsibilities in reporting and recording accurate details of an emergency event
  • Continuous assessment
  • Instructor ratio 1:6
