Total Mandatory (Practical) Training Day

A practical training day to compliment the A&A Training UKSCTF v1.2 e-Learning package. Completion of our Total Mandatory e-Learning module and attendance at this training day will empower the candidate to be completely up to date and compliant with all modules in the UKCSTF v1.2, to Level 2. Please note: this excludes Violence and Aggression (breakaway and restraint).

Duration of whole course: 1 day (8 hours incl. breaks and lunch)

The practical content included in the training day include:

  • Level 2 Resuscitation - Basic Life Support with AED – UKCSTF v1.2
  • Moving and Handling Level 2 – UKCSTF v1.2
  • Conflict Resolution (England, Scotland and Northern Island) – UKCSTF Compliant
  • Fire Safety

Basic Life Support with AED – UKCSTF v1.2

Aim: To provide adult basic life support to meet the level 2 standards of the UK Core Skills Training Framework

Duration: 2 Hours 45 Minutes

Ratio: 1 instructor to 8 candidates

Learning outcomes: 

  • Be able to recognise cardiorespiratory arrest
  • Know how to summon immediate emergency help
  • Know how to recognise and respond to patients with clinical deterioration, escalating care in accordance with local policy
  • Be able to initiate an appropriate emergency response in accordance with Resuscitation Council (UK) guidelines
  • Be able to provide basic airway management
  • Be able to operate an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) safely and appropriately

Moving and Handling Level 2 – UKCSTF v1.2

Aim: To provide moving and handling practical tuition, at the standard required by the Skill for Health Core Framework

Ratio: 1 instructor to 8 candidates

Learning outcomes: 

  • Chair moves and transfers,
  • Bed/trolley/table moves and transfers
  • Mobility
  • Managing the falling/fallen patient
  • Use of equipment available within the organisation e.g. profiling beds, patient hoists and slings, bathing aids, sliding and transferring systems, small handling aids to promote independence. Sliding the supine patient up / down the bed (pushing and pulling)

Conflict Resolution (England, Scotland and Northern Island) – UKCSTF Compliant

Aim: To provide conflict resolution to meet of the UK Core Skills Training Framework

Duration: 45 Minutes

Ratio: 1 instructor to 8 candidates

Learning outcomes: 

  • Describe the common causes of conflict and identify the different stages of conflict
  • Learn from their own experience of conflict situations to develop strategies to reduce the opportunity for conflict in the future
  • Indicate the level of emphasis that can be placed on verbal and non-verbal communication during a conflict situation
  • Understand the need to provide support to those directly affected by a violent incident and the wider organisational benefits of this

Fire Safety

Aim: To undertake fire safety training, compliant with the UK Core Skills Training Framework

Duration: 45 Minutes

Ratio: 1 instructor to 8 candidates

Learning outcomes: 

  • Know instinctively and describe the right action to take if fire breaks out or smoke is detected
  • Be familiar with the different type of fire extinguishers, state their use and identify the safety precautions associated with their use
  • Take part in practical training sessions which should include evacuation techniques and where appropriate fire fighting equipment
  • Know the means of raising the fire alarm and the actions to take on hearing the fire alarm

All practical knowledge and skills taught are completely compliant with the UKCSTF v1.2.

The instructors delivering these courses are, as with all A&A Training instructors are senior clinicians with post registration and teaching qualifications and appropriate clinical experience.
